Unlike public markets, pre-IPO stock values aren't found on a ticker. There are many ways to estimate what your stock is worth.
409A valuations
The 'fair market value' used for tax purposes, typically updated annually or after major events. Because 409A valuations are backward-looking and often conservative, they may not reflect what your stock could sell for on the open market today.
Latest round info
The valuation set by VCs in the most recent fundraising round (e.g., Series C), where they acquire preferred shares at a specific price point. This reflects investor sentiment at the time of the round, but may not capture current market conditions.
Secondary markets
The current trading price of a company's shares on the secondary market, reflecting what buyers are actually willing to pay today. Because these prices are set by real supply and demand, they can offer one of the most timely indicators of your stock's current value.
